suddenly seeing stars.

Dragging my tired feet along, I looked up, and suddenly realised that there were many stars hanging in the sky tonight. The night was not particularly dark (having been illuminated by various artificial sources of light), nor the stars particularly bright. So what caused their "sudden appearance"?

The stars have always been there(though technically what we're looking at is their light from millions and millions of years ago, since they are very far away and the bright light we admire is their legacy passed on to us even after they cease to exist). It has always been the matter of bothering to look up.
