the significance and ingenuity of slackers and their contributions to society.

look around you. every now and then you might point out a person as lazy. because he doesn't seem to want to do anything but sit there and bum, because he has a sleepy face or simply because he has the looks of a lazy person. these are the group of people popularly classified as "slackers" or "bums". now, many people might just say that these people are pests to society and other people, refusing to do anything which requires 1 billionth of an effort(if it could be counted). you couldn't be more wrong. these are the types who are usually the smartest and contribute to society at what they do best. and what they do best could never be acheived once they became hardworking. "now what is that?" you might ask. read on to find out.

the answer is improvisation. slackers are extremely adept at finding various ways and means to make their lives much easier and convenient and with equal efficiency. this is a benefit to society as when the slackers invent a new and easier way to do something with equal efficiency, and the idea is passed on to a dumber but more hardworking person, efficiency is effectively increased. let me illustrate this point with a simple example.

say there are 2 carpenters supposed to saw 100 pieces of wood into 5 pieces each in 5 days. 1 is hardworking while the other is the slacker. the hardworking carpenter works hard at his job, sawing the wood day and night to meet the deadline. he finishes in 5 days. the slacker would be the one to think how he could make his job easier. thus he ties 4 saws together and takes his time and finishes the whole thing in 2 days. efficiency is effectively increased. put the new 4 bladed saw in the hardworking carpenter's hand and lo and behold. more pieces of wood can be sawed in 5 days.

the above example might be a little superficial but this is somehow the way stuff works. slackers are usually the ones who invent new stuff and come out with new and innovative ideas to increase convenience. with the need and desire to relax and bum around, they force themselves to think out of the box and come up with ideas to help them achieve their ultimate goal. once the idea is finalised, with the correct patenting and marketing and stuff, they could easily end up millionaires and retire at 40. or younger. thus the slackers' creative thinking is really a benefit to society. unfortunately, only a priviledged few o level 12 pointers have such ability.

be a genius. be a slacker.

justin.
